What Makes You and me a Northbound Spry, and a Boomer girl of the best kind?

When I turned 70, I knew it was a big girl number, but I did not feel old. I was still full of dreams, and there were so many things I wanted to do before ST. Peter comes knocking on my door. As a nurse, I knew that many women over 65 were kept back from dealing with chronic diseases and senior moments. This tapped their energy, dulled their hopes, and many settled into their comfort zone. Having a comfort zone is a beautiful thing, but it is no place for growth and personal development. The trick to a happy life is finding a balance between our comfort zone and our growth zone.

The growth zone is where we go to realize our dreams and convert them into goals. The goal is our North Star. We all have dreams, and we all have a North Star. If you want to write a book, optimize your health, start a business, improve your financial health, or become an awesome grandma, your North Star is there, twinkling and waiting to bid you welcome.

But FIRST, you must decide what you want and begin the trek towards your goal. That alone will make you Northbound and change your life. It will put passion, hope, and purpose into your daily life. It will lighten your steps and make you feel more Spry.

It broke my heart when I watched patients suffer and die before they had a shot at discovering, realizing, and enjoying their unique dreams or unique abilities. I started my business at age 72 because I wanted to help people over 65 to learn enough health literacy to improve their well-being in body, mind, and spirit. Every one of us, more than 800 million adults over age 65 in the world, deserves that. But because I am a woman, I decided to focus on women. I have nothing against men. I am married to one, have two sons, and four grandsons. Since I don't know how to be a man, I will leave that task to someone else.

What is a boomer girl or Northbound Spry?

It is a woman who has lived for more than 65 years and who has paid her dues. She has lived, she has given, and she has carried others. Her dreams were put on hold so that she could work, support her family, help her parents, and nurture her grandchildren. Everything she did, everything we did, and all the water under the bridge have brought us where we are today.

Time is still on our side.

Her time has finally come to choose herself first.

Why?

Although she supports others in need, she feels strong and confident when she decides:

This is my time to wear the crown.

I am not aging out, I am upgrading.

I choose strength in my body, clarity in my mind, and peace in my spirit.

With a purpose, women over 65 still have things to do, people to see, and places to visit.

Luck is the first word that comes to mind. We are lucky to still be in this beautiful world

Hope brings light into a dark day and creates possibilities that we never imagined.

Confidence becomes our new trademark. Whose opinion about us belongs to us.

Belief is the wind at our backs because we just know we have what it takes.

Community is what we need to feel part of belonging. We are Spry Boomer Girls, together, sisters in arms.

Happy is a word that blows in the wind. When we decide to move in a purpose-driven way, happiness rests at our feet.

Purpose is when we are compelled to move in one direction. We don't want to die undone.
